Nusano Completes Major Milestone Toward Commercial Radioisotope Production

First of three steps toward bringing novel radioisotope production platform online

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — On Thursday, June 25, 2026, Nusano successfully accelerated particles from the company’s proprietary ion source through the low-energy beam transport (LEBT) and radiofrequency quadrupole (RFQ) sections of its linear accelerator (LINAC) to a target.

Known internally as “Beam on Target,” the accomplishment is the first of three milestones en route to bringing the company’s radioisotope production platform online by the end of 2026.

The Beam on Target milestone confirms key front-end accelerator systems, demonstrating the linear accelerator-based platform’s ability to generate, shape and deliver a particle beam to a defined endpoint. During the trial, particles reached 28% of the platform’s full energy.

Upcoming milestones

Two final demonstrations are planned in 2026 to validate the full Nusano system:

  • September 2026 – Nusano will send a beam through its full LINAC to a target, demonstrating an initial radioisotope production capability.
  • December 2026 – Nusano will send a beam through the LINAC and use magnets to steer accelerated particles to a target in a target bay, validating the full production platform.

Urgent need for radioisotopes

Reliable access to radioisotopes remains a limiting factor for many diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceutical programs. The Nusano platform is designed to expand the industry’s overall production capacity to advance next-generation cancer radiotherapeutics.

The Nusano production platform combines time-proven technology from universities and world-class research centers with the company’s patented particle acceleration technology. At full capacity, the Nusano platform is expected to be able to produce more than 40 radioisotopes and up to 12 different radioisotopes simultaneously.
