Nusano in the News: Ribbon Cutting

VIDEO: Highlights from the day

On August 21, 2025, Nusano cut the ribbon on its state-of-the-art radioisotope production facility in West Valley City, Utah. The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of community leaders, business partners, and Nusano employees. What follows is a summary of how the corporate milestone was reported in the news and shared by attendees on social media.

TechBuzz News: Nusano Opens $300 Million West Valley Facility, Pioneering Cancer Therapies, Clean Energy, and Rare Earth Innovation

Governor Spencer Cox framed the moment as “one we will look back on in the years to come as the beginning of greatness here,” pointing to the possibility that “the cures for cancer that we’ve been praying for for so many years could happen right here in West Valley City.” He compared Nusano’s breakthrough to penicillin — miraculous in potential, but in need of scale to truly change history. Nusano, he argued, is that missing link: the company making it possible to manufacture medical isotopes at scale, reducing costs, securing supply chains, and putting lifesaving therapies within reach.

John Dahlstrom, executive vice president of the Wasatch Group, the building’s developer, said he hopes the Nusano site becomes the core of a “medical innovation technology center,” attracting radioisotope users in their development of drugs against cancer.

“We’re already getting others who are going to be using radioisotopes in their drugs to locate here. We have three or four that have already committed, and we have several others who are looking at this opportunity and making the commitment,” Dahlstrom said. “This is really the start of what we see as a hub for innovation here in Utah, innovation around the production of radioisotopes.”

Nuclear Newswire: A busy week in Utah for nuclear development

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox stood alongside several leaders from Nusano…for the ribbon cutting of a new 190,000-square-foot radioisotope production facility in West Valley City.

According to Nusano, the linear accelerator–based platform that will be utilized in this new facility is capable of producing more than 40 different radioisotopes. These isotopes are critically needed in the medical industry for cancer diagnostics among other applications and also have critical applications in the aerospace and defense industries.

Aunt Minnie: Nusano opens flagship radioisotope production facility in Utah

Nusano has opened a new flagship radioisotope production facility in West Valley, UT, to support domestic radiopharmaceutical manufacturing.

The 190,000 sq ft facility can produce up to 12 different radioisotopes simultaneously, according to the firm. New supplies of radioisotopes are urgently needed for new and emerging cancer diagnostics and therapeutics.

Nusano noted that existing medical radioisotope supply chains are often strained and pose a risk to patient care, clinical trials, and ongoing drug development. The facility addresses supply chain bottlenecks, it said.

“Our Utah facility can produce up to 12 different radioisotopes simultaneously,” Howard Lewin, M.D., co-founder and head of Nusano’s product development, said in the release. “This means we can meet the existing needs of drugmakers and at the same time enable tomorrow’s clinical breakthroughs with isotopes that would be unavailable or hard to access without Nusano’s production.”

DOTmed: Nusano opens new radioisotope production facility in Utah

“From our world class production facility in Utah, we will make radioisotopes in quantities and varieties unsurpassed by older methods,” said Chris Lowe, CEO of Nusano. “This will help address supply chain bottlenecks, support domestic manufacturing, and deliver life-changing radioisotope supplies needed for cancer care.”

Nusano said its particle acceleration platform enables more efficient and scalable production than older methods, with the goal of addressing supply bottlenecks and supporting domestic manufacturing. The ability to create and accelerate heavy ions is what enables Nusano’s production volumes, according to the announcement. The company has entered supply agreements and reservations for its radioisotope production slated to begin in late 2025.
