Nusano Ion Source Featured in Science Journal

Oct. 2, 2025 – The American Association for the Advancement of Science’s Science journal has published an overview article of the radiopharmaceuticals industry and Nusano is featured prominently.

The publication writes:

Nusano’s setup, a linear accelerator, is designed to make dozens of radioisotopes in significant amounts, at a site near Salt Lake City that allows quick shipping across the U.S. The setup relies on a novel ion source that generates large numbers of doubly ionized helium atoms, which can be accelerated to high energies. The key innovation is the use of superconducting magnets to confine the ions initially created by the process just long enough to hit them with more electrons—resulting in unprecedented numbers of doubly charged ions. Oscillating electric fields then accelerate those ions to 1/6th the speed of light and magnets steer them to 12 separate stations, where they slam into a variety of target materials to make different isotopes. “It’s alchemy,” Lewin says.
